Weyerhaeuser (formerly Plum Creek) invited community members to participate throughout the Envision Alachua process at workshops held in East Alachua County. Input from the community participants was presented to the Task Force Members for their consideration and incorporation into the Vision Document, Long Term Master Plan, Sector Plan application and Hawthorne Annexation Request and Application. The Task Force and community members will continue to inform the County’s review process for the Sector Plan application, as well as help refine the Detailed Specific Area Plans, as the Envision Alachua process continues.
The next Envision Alachua Community Workshop is not yet scheduled.
An Envision Alachua Open House was held on July 23, 2015. Envision Alachua overview presentations were featured, and the Envision Alachua Design Studio was set up to feature three interactive/educational components: feedback boards, Envision Alachua trivia and a virtual tour listening station. Approximately 45 community members attended the event.
Envision Alachua Community Workshop #1 in Gainesville was held on February 25, 2015. The workshop's objectives were to provide an overview of the Envision Alachua planning process and revised Sector Plan Application and to provide information regarding the following elements of the planning process: Economic Opportunity, Environmental Conservation, and Education and Community.
The Alachua County Board of County Commissioners hosted a series of four community workshops in September 2014 to secure public input on the proposed 50-year plan for Weyerhaeuser's lands in East Alachua County.
