Community Workshops

Weyerhaeuser (formerly Plum Creek) invited community members to participate throughout the Envision Alachua process at workshops held in East Alachua County. Input from the community participants was presented to the Task Force Members for their consideration and incorporation into the Vision Document, Long Term Master Plan, Sector Plan application and Hawthorne Annexation Request and Application. The Task Force and community members will continue to inform the County’s review process for the Sector Plan application, as well as help refine the Detailed Specific Area Plans, as the Envision Alachua process continues.

The next Envision Alachua Community Workshop is not yet scheduled.

Community Workshops and Events - Phase III

Envision Alachua Open House

An Envision Alachua Open House was held on July 23, 2015. Envision Alachua overview presentations were featured, and the Envision Alachua Design Studio was set up to feature three interactive/educational components: feedback boards, Envision Alachua trivia and a virtual tour listening station. Approximately 45 community members attended the event.

East Gainesville Community Workshop #1, Phase III

Envision Alachua Community Workshop #1 in Gainesville was held on February 25, 2015. The workshop's objectives were to provide an overview of the Envision Alachua planning process and revised Sector Plan Application and to provide information regarding the following elements of the planning process: Economic Opportunity, Environmental Conservation, and Education and Community.

Alachua County EASP Community Workshops

The Alachua County Board of County Commissioners hosted a series of four community workshops in September 2014 to secure public input on the proposed 50-year plan for Weyerhaeuser's lands in East Alachua County.

The fourth of Alachua County's four Community Workshops on the Envision Alachua Sector Plan was held Tuesday, September 22, 2014 from 5:00-9:00 p.m. at the County Administration Building. The topic for this workshop was Transportation and Economic Development.

The third of Alachua County's four Community Workshops on the Envision Alachua Sector Plan was held Tuesday, September 16, 2014 from 5:00-9:00 p.m. at the County Administration Building. The topic for this workshop was Natural Resources.

The first of Alachua County's four Community Workshops on the Envision Alachua Sector Plan was held Tuesday, September 2, 2014 from 5:00-9:00 p.m. at Hawthorne High School. The topic for this workshop was a general overview of the Envision Alachua Sector Plan.

Hawthorne Community Workshop #4, Phase II

Envision Alachua Community Workshop #4 in Hawthorne was held on December 7, 2013. The workshop's objectives were to provide an overview of the Envision Alachua planning process, present the draft Long Term Master Plan that will be submitted to the County, and solicit input from the community on topics that will inform the County’s review process for Weyerhaeuser’s application.

Envision Alachua Community Workshop #3 in East Gainesville was held on December 2, 2013. The workshop's objectives were to provide an overview of the Envision Alachua planning process, present the draft Long Term Master Plan that will be submitted to the County, and solicit input from the community on topics that will inform the County’s review process for Weyerhaeuser’s application.

Hawthorne Community Workshop #2, Phase II

The second Envision Alachua Community Workshop of Phase II was held in Hawthorne on June 26, 2013. The workshop's objectives were to provide an update on the Envision Alachua planning process, invite community members to identify potential opportunities for addressing community needs and priorities through the Envision Alachua process, and introduce the Envision Alachua Economic Progress Initiative.

East Gainesville Community Workshop #1, Phase II

The first Community Workshop of Envision Alachua's Phase II was held on February 7, 2013. The workshop's objectives were to provide an update on the Envision Alachua planning process, encourage community members to identify potential opportunities for their community related to Envision Alachua, and introduce the Envision Alachua Economic Development Initiative.

Community Workshop #2

Envision Alachua's second Community Workshop was held on January 11th, 2012. The workshop's objectives were to provide community members an opportunity to review an emerging development concept for Weyerhaeuser lands in East Alachua County, and to present and solicit community feedback on land use and conservation concepts.

Envision Alachua's first Community Workshop was held on October 5th, 2011. The workshop's objectives were to provide an overview of the Envision Alachua planning process and to encourage community members to share their ideas on a vision for Weyerhaeuser lands in East Alachua County.
