Envision Alachua Education Forum

The Envision Alachua Education Forum, "Preparing Our Youth for Future Opportunities: Our Shared Responsibility," was held on October 1, 2014. The event was intended to stimulate collaboration between community leaders committed to improving education, economic development and workforce preparedness to better serve Alachua County youth and young adults and prepare them for the innovation economy.

iG 2013 Regional Economic Forum

The Gainesville Area Chamber of Commerce hosted the iG (Innovation Gainesville) 2013 Regional Economic Forum. This event introduced the next phase of iG, a long-term, multi-year plan leading the effort for economic progress in Gainesville, Alachua County, and the surrounding region.

Models of Innovation Series

Models of Innovation is an educational series designed to present innovations in economic development, land conservation and resource management, and community design during the Envision Alachua visioning process. The forums featured local, regional and nationally recognized experts in presentations and panel discussions.

Models of Innovation is convened by Weyerhaeuser to help stimulate thinking around a future vision for Weyerhaeuser’s lands in eastern Alachua County.

Our four part series featured:

1. Innovations in Economic Development

August 4, 2011, 7 - 9 pm, University of Florida Performing Arts

Speakers presented international and national case studies from cities and towns that are leading the way in the innovation economy and discussed current and future opportunities for Alachua County.

2. Innovations in Land Conservation and Resource Management

September 29, 2011, 7 - 9 pm, PK Yonge Performing Arts Center

This educational forum featured national, regional and local conservation experts sharing conservation success stories. Attendees learned how communities have developed new funding models and forged new partnerships to achieve large-scale environmental conservation and resource protection.

Sustainable design, green building practices, transportation alternatives and jobs close to home are key components of resource-efficient, socially desirable community developments. Speakers described where it is working and what it took for these communities to succeed.
