Talk heated during emergency meeting, but county won't challenge

The hastily called Alachua County Commission meeting was testy at times Wednesday night, but none of the angry talk was enough to convince commissioners to change their position on Hawthorne's annexation of 1,200 acres of Plum Creek land.

Last month, the commission voted 3-2 not to challenge the annexation.

After three hours and more than 30 speakers, the commission stuck with its initial decision, after an attempt to reconsider failed 2-2. Commissioner Charles Chestnut did not attend.
