2015 in Alachua County: Plum Creek is back and sheriff's budget complaints continue

County commissioners sure heard an earful in 2015 from their constituents . . . plans by the Plum Creek Timber Company, the county’s largest landowner, to sell off its land and bring thousands of acres of development to eastern Alachua County, drew arguably the most voluminous debate from across the county.

The plan encompasses 52,745 of its acres and calls for 3,380 acres to be developed into residential and urban development, also in the eastern part of Alachua County.

The County Commission will wrestle with whether to allow the plan to become a reality in 2016.
