What's unique about the Envision Alachua plan is that Gainesville's eastside will benefit first, for a change, and not have to wait for crumbs later. Our commissioners have an opportunity: to ensure the development rights on 88 percent of these acres are permanently removed, while 12 percent is developed, under the comp plan-embraced mixed-use, transit-oriented, employment-oriented policies.
