The Gainesville Area Chamber of Commerce plans to get more involved in politics, announcing its intention to start a political committee that can endorse and contribute to local and state candidates and initiatives that support its economic development goals.
The Chamber's board of directors voted unanimously last month to launch the committee. It will operate as a separate organization with its own board. Chamber members' dues will not be used to fund the committee.
