Land deal could create 27-mile wildlife corridor

State officials on Friday will consider a proposal to acquire 37,495 acres of privately owned forest land in eastern Alachua County for conservation.

The Lochloosa Forest project would ensure a greenway for people, plants and wildlife stretching from the Santa Fe River to Orange Lake… Weyerhaeuser, formerly Plum Creek Timber Co., owns 32,795 acres in the proposal.
