Editorial: Lobbyist rule

In the coming months, Alachua County commissioners will consider the Plum Creek Timber Company’s plan for a development on the eastern side of the county…Commissioners will be able to weigh the project’s benefits and costs in a public process as they consider Plum Creek’s application for a comprehensive plan amendment.

It’s an example of local decision making that hopefully leads to the best plan possible. It’s the opposite of a lobbyist-authored approach being considered in Tallahassee that would prohibit local governments from enforcing certain environmental regulations.
