After four workshops this month on Plum Creek's Envision Alachua plan, the community seems more polarized than ever.
The meetings were a missed opportunity ... Rather than refusing to compromise, it would be better for environmentally minded members of the commission to help develop the best plan possible ... Alachua County must seize the opportunity to work with Plum Creek to improve its plan, instead of punting on those decisions and allowing the risk of piecemeal development.
We can't repeat the pattern of recent weeks in which uncompromising people on both sides dominate the conversation. The community must instead be presented with choices that allow it to decide what represents the greater good.
