Economists at the Harvard Equality of Opportunity Project have found convincing evidence, released earlier this month, that where children grow up matters. The longer they and their families live in “good” counties, the more likely they are to attend college, have good jobs and avoid having single-parent babies.
The Harvard study reflects how we raised children one to two decades ago...Gainesville has taken a new direction since then. City governments, UF, the Chamber of Commerce and others display a new commitment to creating high-valued jobs, as Santa Fe College continues its strong support. The school board now seems dedicated to fighting for students.
