Three Eastside recreation centers get boost to span Digital Divide

While 10 young summer campers in blue city recreation department T-shirts pecked away at computer games in a room down the hall, city and county officials Thursday celebrated the start of free high-speed Internet service at three recreation centers in east Gainesville during a wire-cutting ceremony at the Eastside Community Center.

City Commissioner Charles Goston, whose district covers most of east Gainesville, said each center targets a different demographic...He acknowledged the Plum Creek Foundation for providing a $2,000 grant to buy 10 new computers.
