City of Hawthorne approves application to annex land

The City of Hawthorne has approved an application to annex a big chunk of eastern Alachua County owned by Plum Creek. City commissioners unanimously approved an application to annex 12-hundred acres of land - nearly five months after the initial application was submitted by Plum Creek. City commissioners say the decision is a step in the right direction for hawthorne.

"Sure it gives us the opportunity for a little closure for the initial part of it," says Mayor Matt Surrency. "And people that have been for or against and people that were a little bit on the fence what plan we do have we continue forward."

Mayor Matt Surrency tells TV20 he wants to work with the county and residents to ensure economic growth for future generations.
